The City of Grand Junction and its contractor will be replacing a sewer line on 1st Street between Pitkin Avenue and Grand Avenue, starting on Monday, October 12. The primary reason for this project is to replace the existing 1920s-era clay sewer line to a modern PVC line and to accommodate the reconstruction of 1st Street by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) that is scheduled to start in over a year. CDOT plans to reconstruct a portion of the I-70 Business loop through the intersection of 1st Street & Grand Avenue and the sewer upgrade needs to happen prior to the start of that project.
Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The project will take approximately 6 weeks to complete.
Access to businesses will be maintained. However, there will be short durations when the Contractor has to temporarily close a driveway access in order to install the new sewer pipe. Alternative entrances off surrounding streets are advised during those times. Advanced notification will be given if an access needs to be temporarily closed during daytime hours.
The Contractor will be responsible for maintaining traffic access for residents adjacent to the construction areas. The Contractor will provide traffic control and on-site flaggers to help traffic through and around the work area. Temporary access and road closures will be necessary during the project. Large trucks, including semis, are advised to use the Riverside Parkway as an alternative route.
Please drive with caution around the construction equipment and follow all traffic warning signs in the work areas.
