The City of Grand Junction is continuing improvements to the Lunch Loop Trailhead Parking Lot off of Monument Road. This is in addition to the completion of the Monument Connector Trail, which links the trailhead to the downtown and Riverfront Trail via a 1.5-mile, paved, off street/pedestrian trail.
The City of Grand Junction partnered with Mesa County and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for the trail construction project in 2019. A majority of the funding for the project was provided by Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), and the trail was completed under budget by $350,000. GOCO has given the City permission to utilize the project savings to improve the Lunch Loop Trailhead and add a large, paved turnout area for trailer parking south of the existing parking lot. This project also includes adding a left turn lane off of Monument Road for southbound traffic to access the new trailer parking. The City funded $150,000 for the widening of Monument Road.
Paving operations of the trailer parking area and widening of the roadway were recently completed. Concrete work in the parking lot near the bathrooms was also recently completed. Asphalt near the restrooms is scheduled to be complete the week of August 31. Landscaping will occur in September.
