Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Releases Fall Activity Guide

The availability of the Parks & Recreation system continues to fluctuate as we balance the need to offer what services we can while discouraging the spread of the virus. As the season transitions into Fall, the City would like to update the community regarding offerings.

Parks & Recreation released the Early Fall Guide, which covers activities from August 17th to October to October 4th. The guide is available online. The Late Fall Guide will be released Monday, October 5th and covers activities from October 5th through January 2nd

This guide reflects the latest information on services currently being offered such as recreation programs, swim lessons, and information on the Lincoln Park-Moyer Pool (with an extended season until September 27th) and Orchard Mesa Pool (opening September 28). Grand Junction Parks & Recreation still provides many exciting programs and activities this Fall. Residents can enjoy programs such as adult softball, swimming lessons, and even a cornhole league.

Throughout the pandemic, the City of Grand Junction Parks & Recreation has continually consulted the Mesa County Health Department regarding the status of parks and recreation services. The Department also worked closely with the Colorado High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) for recreation programs such as flag football, volleyball, and basketball.

On August 4, 2020, CHSAA announced what fall sports will look like throughout Colorado. The only approved high school fall sports are boys golf, boys tennis, softball, and cross country. On a normal year, the Parks and Recreation department would offer girls basketball, adult volleyball, and flag football, but with these new guidelines, these activities have been postponed to the spring season for the safety and health of the Grand Junction community. To register for currently offered programs, please go to our Grand Junction Parks and Rec webpage or call 970-254-3866. Residents may also visit the Parks & Recreation office located at 1340 Gunnison Avenue. Parks & Recreation offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. (closed noon-1:00 P.M.).
