Riverfront at Dos Rios Groundbreaking Event

The City of Grand Junction, Dos Rios General Improvement District, and the Downtown Development Authority are celebrating the groundbreaking of the Riverfront at Dos Rios development on Monday, August 17 at 9:00 A.M. just south of Hale Avenue. The celebration will also be available for viewing on the Grand Junction City Information Facebook at the time of the event.

The Riverfront at Dos Rios is a 58-acre mixed development that consists of 15.8 acres of parks and open space, 9.5 acres of light industrial/commercial, and 10.2 acres of mixed-use development. The City of Grand Junction identified this as an area for contemporary development with access to the river, trail system, greenspace, and close proximity to the downtown area. Earthwork is currently underway and park amenities such as the Bike Playground have already been installed.

The Dos Rios area has experienced dramatic transformation since its former use of storing junk cars as recently as the 1990s. The image included in this release shows site when it was home to hundreds of junk cars compared to a picture of the site as it stands today. Few communities in Colorado have undeveloped riverfront properties and the City is pleased to be working with a development company on the acquisition of the property of which they will develop while retaining and constructing nearly 16 acres of additional parkland for the City. At the bottom of the release, a conceptual full build out is shown, further illustrating the full evolution of the area from junkyard to an extension of Downtown and a major community hub.
