Grand Junction City Manager Greg Caton has appointed long-term City employee Shelley Caskey to serve as the director of the Human Resources Department. The appointment took effect June 11.
Caskey joined the City of Grand Junction in 2006 and has served as Interim Human Resources Director since mid-February. Shelley is a member of the International Public Management Association for HR (IPMA-HR) and the Western Colorado Human Resources Association (WCHRA). She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, emphasis in Human Resources, from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio as well as her PHR and SHRM-CP designations. As a dedicated Human Resources professional, Shelley specializes in the areas of compensation and benefits, talent acquisition, employee well-being, and staff development.
Greg Caton states, “Shelley has been a dedicated City employee for many years with increasing responsibilities. She takes on this critical position with years of experience and the knowledge of our organization. While working with Shelley, I have been impressed with her ability to handle complex human resources issues coupled with her strong work ethic.”
Caskey adds, “I am enthusiastic about taking on this leadership role for the City and truly hope to make a difference. It is an honor to work alongside a committed staff and with other City departments for the good people of Grand Junction.”
The Human Resources Department, which has 11 full-time employees, ensures effective selection, development and retention of the City’s work force. This includes recruitment; testing and selection; salary and fringe benefit administration; and policy and procedure development. Additional services include coordination of Citywide training.
