Community Briefing for March 30, 2020

The City of Grand Junction is focused on and committed to the wellbeing of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The City is committed to putting measures in place to make sure that we continue to provide the core municipal services the community expects from the City of Grand Junction.

Public Safety Tips – The City of Grand Junction has the following public safety tips for residents during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis:

When to Call 9-1-1 – The City understands that residents may have questions during the pandemic. There are many resources available for pandemic-related questions online from the City and its agency partners. Mesa County Public Health has set up a COVID-19 hotline at (970) 683-2300 and has a variety of resources on its website. The City asks that residents reserve the 9-1-1 lines for emergencies.

Accident Alert – The Grand Junction Police Department has moved to accident alert protocols for the City of Grand Junction. While accident alert is typically used in severe weather conditions, it can also be effective during a public health order to limit in-person contact. This is an additional measure to adhere to social distancing and to offers protection for community member and first responders. You can always report a traffic alert online.

Watch Out for Scams – COVID-19 scams are like any other. Criminals seek to take advantage of unsuspecting and otherwise trusting individuals. The City of Grand Junction wants residents to be careful and watch for potential scams. If you are suspicious about an offer or request for personal information, remember that you might be facing a scam. As a reminder, FEMA is not contacting people for information before the stimulus checks go out. Also watch also for medical and insurance scams and talk to your existing providers about how they will contact you if necessary. Do not respond to random emails or take phone calls from people you do not know without first verifying who they are.

The City is committed to serving our residents through the temporary stay at home order and will continue to develop creative solutions for this economic and public health crisis. We thank our residents for the support as we maintain the delivery of our core municipal services.
