Community Briefing for March 19, 2020

The City of Grand Junction remains committed to the community as we respond to COVID-19. As the situation continues to evolve, the City has responded with the following updates:

Daily Media Briefing – The City understands that these are uncertain times and that residents have questions about the City’s response to the event. As a result, in the interest of keeping residents informed and updated on the City’s response to COVID-19, we will be hosting a daily media briefing every weekday at 11:00 A.M. To respect guidelines on social distancing, we will be streaming the video to Facebook Live so that residents may view the briefing remotely. Our local media is invited to attend, and we will have precautions in place to limit interpersonal interaction.

Mayor’s Video – We published a video from Mayor Taggart letting our residents know that the City of Grand Junction remains committed to providing essential services to our community and our community partners are working hard on the response. Mayor Taggart also let the community know that the City will continue to focus on preparedness for our organization and the community.

Downtown Parking – Downtown parking will be made free until further notice. Enforcement operations will still occur for designations such as handicapped spaces, fire lanes, and loading zones. Downtown Grand Junction will also be identifying additional spaces as “pick-up” zones for patrons. Generally, for each block on Main Street (north and south sides of the street) the east end of the street will be designated as pick-up spots. A map that shows those designated parking locations can be found on our website.

Other service updates are listed below:

  • We have cancelled all City-related community events, including Parks & Recreation programming and shelter reservations until May 15.
  • Handwashing stations have been installed at the corner of 5th Street & Main and in Whitman Park.
  • Planning, permitting and inspection services will continue to be provided to the community. More information can be found on our website.
