The Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department is beginning a new initiative in 2019.
Throughout the department, efforts are being made to eliminate turf areas around town that are not being utilized by park patrons. These efforts are being developed in order to be more conscientious about the department’s water use and to continue the City’s effort to be water wise.
Among the spaces included in this effort are the roundabout at 12th Street and Horizon, as well as several locations on Riverside Parkway. Both projects are weather dependent and are set to take place in the coming weeks.
Some spaces will include decorative rock, while others will have a variety of plant materials that utilize less water. As the year progresses, the department will begin to shift its focus to native and xeric varieties of plants in an effort to conserve water usage throughout the City.
