The race for three open City Council seats has begun and candidates are beginning to throw their hats into the ring through the nomination petition process. District B, District C and one At Large seat will all be open this spring. All seats are four-year terms and a map outlining all Council Districts can be found here.
Information on individual verified candidates can be found on the elections web page. Included will be a photo and links to the candidates’ email addresses and websites/social media sites, if they so choose. Providing this information in a centralized location makes it easier to learn about those who choose to run for elected City office.
In order to qualify to run for a City Council seat one must be at least 18 years of age, be a registered Grand Junction voter and have lived in the city limits for twelve consecutive months immediately preceding the date of the election. At Large candidates may live anywhere within the city limits; District B and C candidates must have lived within the boundaries of those districts for the preceding twelve months.
Candidates must submit signatures of at least 50 valid registered Grand Junction voters and return them to the City Clerk’s office by 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2019. More details can be found here.
Ballots will be mailed out starting March 11 and must be returned by 7 PM on Election Day, April 2. Only registered voters living in the city limits are eligible to vote on the City Council race. Voter registration status can be checked by visiting the Mesa County Clerk’s website.
