Due to unanticipated equipment problems and the very quick drop of many leaves as a result of sudden cold temperatures, the City’s Leaf Pick Up Program is running somewhat behind schedule and we are asking for patience as our crews work to catch up with their routes.
The annual program, which got underway October 15 and runs through mid-December, eliminates excess leaf buildup along City streets that can cause storm water drains to clog. These efforts help prevent flooding and reduce negative impacts affecting water quality. Leaves collected during this program are taken to the Mesa County Organic Materials Composting Facility where they are recycled and turned into compost. Over 10,000 cubic yards of leaves are collected annually.
