New Director Selected to Lead ‘Visit Grand Junction’

Elizabeth Fogarty2Grand Junction City Manager Greg Caton has appointed Elizabeth Fogarty to be the next Director of Visit Grand Junction. She will officially begin on Monday, March 5, but will begin participating with Visit Grand Junction staff on the new Visit Grand Junction brand launch prior to her arrival. Elizabeth was one of 116 individuals who applied for the position during a nationwide recruitment followed by a professional assessment process.

Ms. Fogarty most recently comes from Visit Estes Park in Estes Park, CO where she was the President and CEO for over 3 ½ years. While there, Visit Estes Park received the 2016 Governor’s Award for the Best Marketing Campaign in Colorado. In addition, she was instrumental in expanding the area from a largely seasonal destination to one with a vibrant year-round appeal. Elizabeth has a solid background in marketing, branding, business development, finance, sales and consulting in the travel and hospitality industries. She has a wealth of experience in destination management and has a proven track record of innovation and identifying solutions under challenging circumstances. Elizabeth has been active in destination management professional organizations throughout the state of Colorado and internationally.

City Manager Greg Caton states, “I am looking forward to having Elizabeth lead the destination marketing efforts. Tourism is a growing part of our economy and a significant amount of jobs are related to the tourism industry. We have phenomenal assets in our region and we are a wonderful destination. Elizabeth’s energy, leadership capabilities and industry experience are exactly what we need to brand and market the area.”

The Visit Grand Junction Department, which is primarily funded by lodging tax collected on hotel rooms, operates with a budget of approximately $2 million and a staff of nine. The department serves as the tourism and destination marketing organization for the Grand Junction area.

The Visit Grand Junction Director position is becoming vacant due to the upcoming retirement of long-time director Debbie Kovalik.
