The Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture is reaching out to the community for involvement in the 2017 Champion of the Arts Awards. Since 1994, the Arts Commission has been honoring citizens and businesses who have been instrumental in supporting & promoting our cultural community.
NOMINATIONS: The Arts Commission invites cultural groups, organizations, and local citizens to nominate Grand Junction businesses and individuals for this distinguished honor to recognize their generosity, dedication, promotion, and support of the arts. Award winners will be announced at the Centennial Band Christmas Concert held on December 3, 2017 at 3:00pm at the Avalon Theatre. Recipients will receive local artwork as the Champion of the Arts Award. Recipients will also be introduced to the Grand Junction City Council in January. Criteria and nomination forms are available at gjarts.org and are due November 14, 2017 by 5:00pm.
CALL FOR ARTISTS: The Arts Commission is also seeking to purchase 2 pieces of local artwork to be given as the award to the recipients of the Champion of the Arts Awards. Artwork must be appropriate for indoor display and should have broad, general appeal. The value of the artwork should not exceed $850. This call for artists is open to all Mesa County residents. Details and submission forms are available at gjarts.org and are due November 14, 2017 by 5:00pm.
The Commission on Arts and Culture is an eleven-member board appointed by the City Council to foster cultural development and arts activities in the community.
