Muralists to Paint Saturday at Car Park aRT

The south side of the downtown parking garage will be the site of seven local mural artists participating in Car Park aRT, as part of the Downtown Art Festival on Saturday, October 7.

With the tremendous success of the aRT mural program on the Riverfront Trail in 2016, many community members wanted to keep the current murals in place for at least another year. In response, the committee pursued expanding to the downtown parking garage. The owner group approved the idea and Car Park aRT was born. Car Park aRT will bring color and vibrancy to the barren south facing concrete wall. Pedestrians will enjoy the murals as they access the breezeway between the parking garage and Main Street.

We are lucky to live here! Grand Junction has one of the richest public art public programs on the West Slope. We continue to utilize the talent of our local artists to enhance our community and add a culturally rich fabric to the layers of our city.

Four of the seven chosen muralists participated last year in aRT and have murals on the Riverfront Trail: Jeremy Velasquez, Onyx Cly-Peek, Matt Goss, and Jerad Slates. Newcomers are Aaron Simpson, Jeremy Raymond, and Ethan Dow. Throughout the day, these muralists will be working and we would like to encourage the public to come down, watch them paint, and enjoy all of the other activities of the Downtown Art Festival.
